We were encouraged to work on our family and farm histories and also do a section on wedding pictures. â€" April . ~__~~_Eleanor McLaughlin taiked about Canadian Cancer Society, its miss%on statement, Progress in research and néeed for volunteers. We recognized the passing of Elsie Wilcox one of the first members of Laurentian View WI in March 1951. Topic: Memories of Mothers and Grandmothers. Members were involved reading humorous stories and poems supplied by Eleanor and enjoyed sharing stories and laughter. . Several members attended District Annual at Locksley Lutheran Church. Laurentian View won the most New Members Piaque with five new members and also second prize for Church History in our Tweedsmuir History. We also attended Alice W.I.s 60th Anniversary h'\\â€"_â€"-“â€"â€"â€"â€" dinner celebration on May 25. June Topic: Agriculture. Gerry Therens gave a talk on growing mustard a new Ontario crop history, insect control, harvesting processing and marketing. Eleanor McLaughlin was presented with a Life Membership Pin and Certificate in recognition of 35 years as member of Laurentian View. July . . . We put a display in Beachburg Fair W.I. display and received $20 in prize money. August . For Canadian Industries, Eleanor organized a tour to Smith Falils. Cindy Pilgrim drove a rented van for'7 members. We enjoyed a selfâ€"conducted tour of Hershey Chocolate Plant, made purchases in the Chocolate Shop, then ate a picnic lunch at the picnic area there. we toured the Rideau Canal Museum with its excellent displays, maps and information then walked along the canal‘s boat lifts. On the way home a stop was made at Craft Shops i akenham, then of course a treat "a big ice cream cone at the General Store". in P . ; wWe put a display at Cobden Fair W.I. display. September . , ~â€"â€"_â€"On September 9 our members were guests at Snake River W.I. for dinnermeeting at nglican Church, Cobden. Speaker was Nutritionist, Shelly Bulmer. Ang > On September 23, we entertained Forester‘s Falls W.1I. at Irene‘s home. Guest speaker Christine Reaburn showed slides and gave an interesting informative talk on her trip to world ?onference at Pretoria, South Africa and on to Australia. How lucky to live in Canada. . Eleanor was coâ€"ordinator for Rural Ramble Quilt and Craft Show, Bazaar Table and iunch at Orange Hall Beachburg on September 26 & 27 Saturday and Sunday.
