page 2 In 1927, the following wedding announcement appeared in the Cobden Sun: f Bennett â€" Robinson ’ | i A very quiet but pretty wedding was solemnized at the 5 Holiness Movement Parsonage on Wednesday, November 20th, by the Reverend S. Jeffrey, when Ruby, daughter of Mr. John | Robinson and the late Mrs. Robinson of Grant Settlement, | became the bride of Derwood Bennett, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. A. Bennett of Queen‘s Line. The bride looked lovely in a gown of Resida green f%at crepe, and wore shoes and hose to match. The bridesmaid, Miss. Vera Bennett, sister of the groom, was prettily dressed in sand georgette, trimmed with brown velvet, and wore shoes and hose to match. The groom was supported by Mr. Newton Ireton. In the evening a reception was held at the Bride‘s home, Grant Settlement. The happy couple will reside on the groom‘s farm, Queen‘s M Line. xo % % % % % % k k % % t r t r ' The Bennetts spent most of their married life on the same farm on Queen‘s Line, moving in 1971 to Cobden where they now reside. Ruby and Derwood raised eight children. They are: Darwin of Alberta, Rita (Mrs. Percy Hawthorn of Beachburg), Christine (Mrs. Keith Dorschner), Helen (Mrs. Ander VanDerhorne of Ottawa), Ruth who died in an automobile accident, Joan (Mrs. David Reid of Admaston), Jim of Cobden and Mary (Mrs. Murray Crozier of Northcote). The 50th anniversary reception, held at the Cobden Memorial Hall, was attended by hundreds of relatives and friends. Both the groomsman, Mr. Ireton, and the bridesmaid {now Mrs. Vera Gibson) were present, as were a good number of the couple‘s eight children, twentyâ€"five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
