The first your the Branch entered the (rieniire.w Fair there not profit was $1.35 as now we are paid $20.00 for entering n full display! Some change. Speaking of finances...one year the bank balance was 98e...l am sure it was well spent. no have had a few lean years but not that bed. Some yeurs ago we 'udoptcdt as our child, n girl in the Smith Falls home for the mentally retarded children. Mary Allen was about 12 years old at the time; she is now in her 25th year. She hqs advanced over the years from the mental level of' about 6 years when we stdrted cering for her to where she is now in a training centre, correct me on this if I an mistaken, and last yedr was able TO write a note to us on receiving a Birthday gift. Recreation: Day trips have been greatly enjoyen by our members and fCrieru1s...inc1udimg' a trip to Ottawa for the Tulip Festival. The will of Kintail in llmonte...Upper Canada Village in Cornwall Fort Henry in Kingston....Centennial Musieum in reterborough and the most recent... a day in Ottawa. In Centennial yeer 1978 the Projueet for J.I. here was the Financing and opening of the Mayflower Hark in memory of those lost on the Ferry boat which sailed the Mndawnska River with freight end pgssengers many years ago. The boat was lost in a storm on Knmineskeg Lake in 1912 on November 12th. we like to remember the older and the shut-in friends so three yedrs ago we started a "secret Friend" club and have derived much . pleasure in thinking: of these friends, we do hope that they do as well. we have u good working group now and I think everyone feels that women’s Institute still has a roll to play. The Mayflower rnrk is evidence, a lasting one, at the public park in town. In the last 12 years or so we have sponsored many 4-il clubs and our most recent Adult class for the women woe "r)ewing with Knits" in the new materials. It was a well attended course end worthwhile.
