Feb. 25 was the usual huge . _ success. Although a great > amount of work was put into the planning and setting up of , the sports events as well as in the indoor events, the real action started in earnest at ‘ 10:00 a.m. with the tugâ€"ofâ€"war competitions. The pupils were divided into eight. teams, with boys and girls from grades 1 to‘ 8 making up each of these teams, so as to have the competitive classes as even n and fair as possible. At 10:45 a.m. the first four events, the snowshoe race, sack raceyice ~ . slide and ball throw were carried out in different areas of the school grounds. +. Ail were ready for a hearty L lunch at noon, when coffee, tea, pop, hot dogs, sandâ€" wiches, baked beans, chili, doughnuts, pie and much more were available and were thoroughly enjoyed after the healthy morning exercises "in the clear, cold weather outdoors, as they competed in * j the many events. . . At 1:00 p.m. the second four events, toboggan pull, crazy carpet, skate race and team ski by the eight teams, kept everyone hopping. i A mini auction was held at ‘ 2:15 p.m. and many goodies â€" were auctioned off to help > towards the grade 8‘s trip to Toronto from June 6â€"10. .A goodly sum was realized from . this auction, thanks to those who donated articles and also to a dedicated and cheerfully determined auctioneer. Hockey games were enjoyed _ with grades 1, 2, 3 and 4 pupils playing against ladies of the h community. The men of the community | tried out their hockey expertise against the ‘grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 boys and girls. This is always a ‘very popular part of .the annual wihter carnival at Savard. ' Later all met in the school for the announcing of thé winners. T020 ‘The tearis in the sports received very good marks. Team 2, "The Dukes" conâ€" sisting of Brian Bockus, Nikk Briggs, â€" David | Warren, Carelyn Blancher, Chris : DeVries, Willy.Carleton, and Carrie Gilbert came in firs ,_ place with 47 points. > Team 7, the "Smurfs‘ wit Melanie DeVries, Jasoi. Tucker,â€"Corey Barnes, Davia . Thompson, Harry Grant and Seana Mininett came in second place with 44 points. Team 3, the "Alley Cats", with Roy Cook, Mark Merritt, Karyn Minnett, Audra Tucker, Chad Parker, Robert Cobean, Faye . Grant and Susan Green came : in third place with 43 points. Team 4, the "Caspers" with Rodney DeVries, Rhonda Pratt, Evelyn Grant, Kelly â€" Green, Kevin Clark, Wayne Westbrook and â€" Becky Hamilton received 42 points as also did. Team 5 the "Dinos" with Tracey Little, Carrie Aune Polmateer; Jeff Peart, Tanya Reid, Darrin Rodgers, Norman Briggs and Heather Green. ‘ * Team 1, the "Vikings" with © David â€" Blancher, ~David Demarell, Julie Green, Stephanie Carleton, Farren Reid, Troy Wilson and Tammy DeVries won 38 points as also did Team number 6, ‘"The Browns", with Leslie Thompson, Tammy Hamilton, â€" Greg Wilson, ‘Jennifer Rodgers, Nicky +Reid, Stephane Polmateer and Kim Gilbert. Team 8, "Pacman" j with Steve Rodgers, Michael â€" // Daley, Audrey Peddic, Brett Wilson, Jason Parker, Jenâ€" , nifer Clark and Monica Turk ‘ also received 38 points.
