Soccer club asking, 'Where have all the players gone? By Bob Owen The Castleton Sports Club soccer program continues to grow. This year under the direction of relative newcomer Allan Houston, the club has expanded its program from the five teams it had last season to seven this year. Castleton Sports Club expands soccer program The club will operate teams playing full team soccer' 1n the mosquito and atom division of the Northumberland Soccer League. Two squirt teams and three tyke squads will hit the pitch in mint-soccer. By Bob Owen Where have ail the players gone? That must be the question that Colborne Cramahe Haldimand soccer officials must be asking these days. After a great turnout last year (130 players), the CCH Club is looking at a 50 percent decrease based on registration days held in late March and early April. Houston reported to the Chronicle that, as of May 6, there were 89 players registered for the season which starts just after Victoria Day. The only division where there weren't enough players to field a team was the lS-and-under category. of the six who A recent arrive from Mllverton, just west of Kitchener. League president Chris Godsell does expect more participants, especially on the men's and women‘s teams, but Is at a loss to explain the decrease in the younger categories. Using the current registrants, Godsell and his executive have arranged the 64 players into four teams. 7 A full squad of under-135 will play full team soccer in the Lakeshore League. A nine-and -under team will play full soccer in the Northumberland Soccer League. As well the CCH Club will iield an under- seven mlnl-soccer team.
