2. LORD and LADY TWEEDSNMUIR Lord Tweesmuir â€" Lord Tweedsmuir was born John Buchan in Scotland, August 25th, 1975, . A the son of Rev. John Buchan. He was called to the Bar in 1901 and was a member of the British House of Commons for Scottish Universities from 1927 to 1935. In 1935 he was given the title, "Baron Tweedsmuir." He was also an historian and novelist. Some of his novels were;: The 39 Steps Salute to Adventure The Three Hostages. Listed among his biographies and historical works were;: Sir Walter Raleigh Sir Walter Scott Julius Caesar Oliver Cromwell The Massacre of Glencoe The King‘s Grace. "Memory Hold the Door" was his autobiography and one of his latest works. John Buchan, the first Lord Tweeddmuir, was Governorâ€"General of Canada from 1935 to 1940 and it was in Montreal, Quebec, that he died on February llth, 1940. His Library was bequeathed to Queen‘s University, Kingston, Ontario. Lady Tweedsmuir â€" Susan Tweedsmuir, wife of our beloved Governorâ€"General, was an ardent member of the Women‘s Institute in England, and was made an Honorary Life Member of the Federsated Women‘s Institutes of Ontario. It was she who advocated that our organization across Canada, compile the histories of our local communities and villages. o Lady Tweedsmuir has written many plays, children‘s books and reminiscences. She returned to England following the death of her husband and is still residing there. She still takes an interest in the Women‘s Institutes in Ontario as indicated by her letter printed on page 15, 1973 Summer Edition of the "Home and Country."
