Historian, novelist and Governorâ€"General of Canada from 1935 to 1940. Called to the Bar in 1901 . From 1927 to 1935, he was a member of British House of Commons for Scottish Universities, In 1935, he was titled "Baron Tweedsmuir". Author of a number of biographies and historical works: Sir Walter Raleigh; Julius | Caesar; The Massacre of Glencoe; Sir Walter Scott; Oliver Cromwell; The King‘s Grace, etc. Some of his novels were: The 39 Steps; Salute to Adventurers; The Three Hostages, etc. “l’ Memory Hold the Door was his autobiography and one of his latest works. John Buchan, _ the first Lord Tweedsmuir, died in Montreal on February ll1th, 1940. His library was bequeathed to Queen‘s University at Kingston, Ontario. LADY_TWEEDSMUIR: Susan, wife of our beloved Governorâ€"General, has written many plays, children‘s books and reminiscences. She was an ardent W.I. member in England, and was made an Honorary Life Member of F,.W.I.0. She advocated that our organization across Canada compile the histories of our local communities and villages .
