FOREWORD In presenting Volume 3 of the Tweedsmuir History, we dedicate it to the men and women whose lives have contributed to the tradition of farming. Since our community has been and still is very rural, we extend our gratitude and respect to those who have made it a proud heritage. "When tillage begins, other arts follow, The farmers therefore are the founders of human civilization." Daniel Webster. The worth of these records can only be evaluated by the interest shown in them and the information gained from them. Appreciation is expressed to everyone who has contributed to this local history by sharing stories and pictures with us. Acknowledgement is made to Mrs. Jean Donley who crafted the cover, to Miss Carolyn Adams who did the art work on the cover and inside pages, to Mrs. William (Margaret Needham) McCullough who did the typing and to Mr. Murray Copeland who did the photo processing. These comments and acknowledgements ar® made on behalf of the Tweedsmuir History Committee of the BirT Women‘s Institute. Mrps. John S Adams.
