Browns WI meet The president Janet Uren opened the meeting with a reading on volun- teering. The Ode and Collect were used. Secretary Evelyn Arthur read the minutes of the June meeting and the correspondence. Joyée West gave the treasurer's report, Some of the upcoming dates to remember from the correspondence. The fall board meeting tobe held at Pcksolon September 27, at 10 a.m. The quilt fest held at Milton earlier this summer at which we entered a runner, we have been asked to submit it to be entered at the Royal Winter Fair in November, also we were reminded of the pies for the Citizen Advocacy on Sept. 20. The meeting was turned over to the educational and culture group who had planned a car trip to Shakespeare to tour the various crafts and shops and to have lunch at Harry Ten Skilling. Afterevery one had enjoyed lunch, Susan Towle had and enjoyable task she reviewed the history on one of our members since joining WJ. and then called on Dorothy Taylor to come forward and presented her with a life member ship pin and certifi- cate. Dorothy taken by surprise thanked everyone. The meeting for October will be on October 15 at7:45 p.m., the Novem- ber program will be used at this meeting with the October program being used in November. Thus another enjoyable meeting with W.I. members and friends. We then left in small groups and enjoyed touring the various shops and making purchases, come of the places toured were, the quilt place, Land and Ross Antiques, Glen Manor Galleries, Chanticleer, Jonny's Antiques. We all thought Shakespeare was a delightful place to spend a few hours with so many interesting places to visit, something for everyone and all with in walking distance. Thanks goes to the group planning our day. The 4-H club was present and prepared the program on Heritage. The leader Mabel Muir gave an out- line of each meeting held. Each members gave the history of several farms and houses in the Medina and Lakeside area. Browns Womens Institute was held on Tuesday night at Browns School. Mrs. Alice Hhwkesworth com- piled a history of the Women's Insti- tute and ended with the history of our local Branch. Mrs. Janet Uren pre- sented Alice with a gift in apprecia- tion of her work as the Tweedsmuir Curator. During the business several an- nouncements were made. Mrs. Helen Conway will attend the workshop, "Wardrobe Wizardry in Hukson" on November 2. " Mrs. Evelyn Arthur gave a report on the London Area Convention held in Norwich on October 12. The F.W.I.C. Convention will be held in Browns Womens Institute QUINTIN KING of Medina celebrated his 80th birthday on Sun.. day with family and friends at the Browns school house in Browns Corners. With Quinton in this photo is his two-year-old great- grandson Ryan Hicks. Thunder Bay in 1992. Mrs. Carol Miller gave a report of the Board meeting of Oxford North Women's Institute held in Hickson. Christmas at the Lee will be Decem- ber 4 at the Hoodless Home, Decem- ber 5. Thursday November 7 will be W.I. Day at the Royal Winter Fair. An invitation was received from Lake- side W.I. to attend their meeting at the Parish Hall, Lakeside on Novem- ber 6 at 8 p.m. when the speaker will be from Family and Children Serv- ices in Woodstock.
