The south Perth Hostess District presi- dent Helen Sinclair welcomed every- one. Entertainment at the banquet was provided by the Vocal Dimensions from Mitchell District High School. Greetings were brought from St. Marys Mayor Gerry Teahen and guests from the south western, Guelph and Grey Bruce areas. A 90th anniversary scholarship was presented to teacher Mary Alice Roth of North Oxford. Maryn Pardy Scholarship winners were: Catherine Sutherland for Mid- dlesex County, Susan Moodie, South Oxford and Heather Gillett of North Oxford. Included are special transportation needs for the disabled in rural areas and that the Assistive Devices pro- gram be extended to service all dis- abled people regardless of age. London Area W.I. Convention The 73rd annual convention of the London Area Women's Institutes was held on October 15 and 16 at the St. Marys Community Centre with over 300 people in attendance. Three resolutions were sustained which will be sent on to the provin- cial level, regarding the screening of immigrants for AIDS. F.W.I. Ontario president Margaret Munro from Carp, near Ottawa, updated and explained various pro- gram changes in her message. The guest speaker, Salvation Army Major Paul Murray of Toronto, told of the sharing and car- ingcarriedoutattheArmy'shostelin that city. of Shelter for the Homeless, the pro- gran theme was Sharing and Caring. Next year's convention will be held October 13 and14 with Elgin County Women's Institutes as host- esses, location to be decided later. New business involved a motion to consider a one-day convention and a new bylaw that the minutes be read and approved at an executive meet- mg. Motherwell W.I. entertained on Thursday afternoon with a humorous skit entitled Today in Perth County, when three farmer's wives were interviewed in respect to their roles on the farm. The Rural Organizations and Serv- ices Specialists from the Ontario Mininstry of Agriculture and Food illustrated team work in a presenta- tion, Come Fly With Us, Aim High Flight 87. '
