HISTORY OF A PHARMACY The Corner Drug Store in Norwich was opened in N0rw1cu by John A. Tidey in 1848, 14 years before Field's moved to its present location. It was operated under the name of Medical Hall - stationer's.Emporium and continued to operate under this name for at least 50 years. Tidey in Norwich, Ontario. By 1871 Mr. Tidey (now president of the Norwich Pharamacists Association) had already operated a drug store on the corner for 23 years, so after a good deal of consternation and deliberation, the College of Pharmacy de- cided to give Mr. Tidey a licence to make him. a druggist on the corner in Norwich. - A licence that was to remain until the store was sold to Mr. James Haken in 1898. l bhuno I‘D-m) _-_-'- -- , , , James Haken.bought the store in 1898 and operated it successfully for a number of years. In 1900 a disastrous fire wiped out the .frame structure on the corner of Stover and Main Sts. Fortunately however, prescription records and ac- count books had been moved to another building on the after- noon preceeding the fire. In the same year a new red brick building was erected on the same site, to replace the building destroyed by the fire.
