REPORT OF CONVENTION 1.tgti, The first session of the Belleville District Women's Institute opened at 1.30pm Oct. 26th, 1926 in the City Hall Belleville, Over three hundred delegates registered. Mrs M. B. Weese Convention Chairman presided over the opening session, and after singing of the Institute Ode and the Lord's Prayer, made an appropriate address. ".. Mrs C. A. Bleecker of Marmara was elected Press Secretary and Mrs c. P. Clark, Brigh- _ , ton was elected Convention Secretary. Alderman t. B. Collins, in the absence of'Mayor Graham, on behalf of the city, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors. Hrs. John R. tirown responded to this address. Mr. Putnam briefly addressed the Convention at this time and wave helpful suggestions many times during other sessions. The District Presidents gave concise reports of conditions and work in their districts. Mrs. Dass of Consecon sang "Keep on H0ping", Mrs. MacDonald of Stirling gave a reading Mrs. Farley of Smithfield one of earliest' W.I. officers was invited to sit on the platform. Mrs. B. Finkle presented report of standing committee on Relief, Mrs. C. Field Robertson, Lanark9Provincial president of Federated Women's Institutes spoke of var- ious things accomplished by the Women's Institutes and the opportunities and res- ponsibilities now presenting themselves. Miss G.C. M. White representing the "Ontario, Farmer" was Introduced. She advocated correspondence with Institute members in England, and more Interest be taken inBritish immigration and colonization. A resolutions committee was appointed. Mrs. R. e. Allen convener, Mrs. o. Harris, Mrs M.E. Fargey and Mrs W.R. Munro, _ Adjourned to attend Bang vet in the New Queens Hotel 321 were present. Mrs M.E. Maybee was toast mistre65-- "Our King" was responded to by all singing v _" "God Save the King". "Our Country" was responded to by all singing "O Canada". Mrs. C. t, ’) Field Robertson responded to "Our Federation Board". Mr C. F. Wessels to the Cheese Boa- rd and Mr Putnam also made a happy speech. The Rednersville Boy's Orchestra played in the City Ball Between sessions. f
