J 4 1980 -- 84 a--3 ' p PATSLEY BUSINESS CHANGES } JANUARY 1981:; Paisley Advocate has been taken over by $ \ ) Harold Wyonch of Wiarton from Bill Matheson of Chesley, and the Paisley Advocate office has moved one door north of the Present location. MARCH 1981: Russell and Lorna McAllister and daughter Laurie have moved to Simcoe, Ontario, from their Plumbing and Heating store on the west side of Queen Street South, Paisley. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Ingram (nee Mary McClure) sold the Esso Service Station and Variety Store to Mr. and Mrs. Alex Marr, and moved with their daughter Debra and son David to Lambeth, Ontario. This ended over 50 years service to the people of the | Paisley district by the McClure family. Mr. Smith McClure | (Mary's Grandfather) bought the Balmoral Hotel in December 1928 and turned it into a Garage and Service Station. It has been managed by a member of the McClure family ever since with his sons Harvey, Walter and Lloyd all working there. Walter (Mary's f father) and Uncle Lloyd sold the business to Gary and Mary in | ¢ September 1972 and they added the Variety Store. l 8 APRIL 1982: Dawn Thompson, Victoria Street South, is opening Sooters Studio and Photo Finishing Shop. | JUNE 1982: At the Paisley Inn a Take--Out Window has been installed, which Manager Darlene Stark feels will benefit her customers. JULY 1982 The Paisley Advocate published the last edition in the small size, and July 7 the large size with less pages will be edited. The D & H Diner's grand opening was held when Dianne Gottschalk and Helen Grant opened for business where the County Kitchen had been operating. The Frocke Shoppe in the centre of Paisley at the bridge, closed their doors in September. 'The Stoddart and Sawyer Furniture and Appliance store went out of business. This has been a furniture store for many years. A Bulk Store was opened on the west side of Queen Street North, by Tony and Daphne Fraser. Their daughter Dianne is the Manager. &¥
