Some im what later became S.S. #11 also attended this school before Clover Valley School was One of the older former residents of Paramount, Mr. Gordon Towle of Vancouver, recalled that in; 1892 the old school was in a farm building on the same site as the stone school. The first teacher}; whom he could remember was Mr. Henry Hudson, who walked with a crutch. He later became tii) dentist in Toronto. He was followed in 1893 by Mr. John McNay and in 1894 by Miss Martha b, Mailough, who remained for three years and was the last teacher in the old school. 5 The new stone school was built in 1895 by Mr. W. Gardiner at a cost of $985. The old school was moved back to make room for the new one by Mr. James McCluskey of Lucknow. Earth was. removed for the basement by Mr. James Cook of Paramount. The trustees at that time were Mn}: Albert Towle, Chairman, Mr. George Robinson and Mr. William Clarkson. School opened without? ceremony in the summer of 1895 with Miss Mailough as the first teacher. ',_r'_ir"t,_' In 1901 the teacher's salary was raised to $360 a year. The grounds were levelled and fenced andéit' a water supply was made available. _ '; In the earlier days debates were frequently held with pupils of the higher grades taking part.
