HIGHLIGHTS WOMEN'S INSTITUTE; RIPLEY, 1960 - 1970 1959 - 60 1960 - 61 PRESIDENT, Mrs. James Kirkpatrick In July, 1960 our Institute went to the Shakespeare Festival, Stratford by bus. It was a memorable occasion. We donated one hundred dollars to the Ripley Arena. We held our first Daffodil Tea and invited all neighbouring Institutes to come and help with the program. Mrs. Kirkpatrick convened the Blind Canvass for ten years. 1961 - 62 1962 - 63 PRESIDENT, Mrs. Donnie MacDonald August 1962 our Grand mothers' meeting was held at "Bernhardt" on the beautiful lawn of Cs Mrs. Outerbrid ge's home. The children entertained the grandmothers to a splendid program of bagpipes w _ scottish dancing, recitations and a playlet "To all Grandmothers." September 1962 M. K. MacDonald, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education, Toronto Bd. of' Educa- Mon was guest speaker at a special meeting held In the Township Hall. He spoke on "Problems facing our Schools In Education today." All neighbouring Institutes were Invited to attend, " well as any others who were Interested. . D ecember 1962 a turkey luncheon and Christmas program was held at Mrs. Donnie MacDonald's home. We had a delightful program, the older members and guests participating so enthusiastically in a g1IEBS- Ing game, tar pantomining Christmas Carols. August 1963 a life membership certificate and badge was presented to Mrs. Duncan Munn at her home. She had been for fifty three years an active member. 1963 - 64 1961. - 65 PRESIDENT, Mrs. Joe Scott On October 9, 1964 the Sixtieth anniversary of Ripley Women's Institute was celebrated. All surround- Ing Institutes were represented at this celebration. Each attendant Past President reminisced on her experiences while In office. Mrs. James Kirkpatrick placed a bouquet of flowers In memory of deceased members. Two charter members and former presidents, Mrs. G. H. Mooney and Mrs. Shirl Bowers Here presented with corsages by their daughters Mrs. R. H. Martyn and Mrs. Walter Culbert. In May, 1964, at the District Annual Meeting of Bruce South ll. I. Mrs. Francis Gemmell from our Ripley Branch was elected P resident of! the District. March 20, 1965 an "Old Tyme Tea Meeting" was held in Ripley District High School Auditorium. This supper and delightful entertainment was held in co-operation with Salads Foods Ltd. Members came In _ "Turn of the Century" dress. 178 attended and net proceeds were $101.64. 1965-66 1966-67 PRESIDENT - Mrs. Andrew Patterson May 6, 1966 Mrs. Francis Gemmell, District President, presented a Life Membership pin and badge to Mrs. Shirl Bowers, a member since 1911, and one who served on many committees. She stated she had always enjoyed the work, and thanked the members for the hohour bestowed on her. May 26, 1966, the District Annual Meeting of Bruce South ll. I. was held in Ripley. Mrs. ll alker, Provincia 1 Curator, announced Ripley had come first with their history book in the Tweedsmuir History Competition. June 3, 1966, motion was made and carried that we join the Kincardine Hospital Auxiliary as a group. Mrs. Walter L coke and Mrs. Walter Culbert were appoint' ed representatives. Mrs. Hm. Tranter was a ppointed alternate. 1967 - as _ 1968 - 69 PRESIDENT u. Mrs.' Walter Leek We voted Fifty dollars to the artificial ice arena In Ripley, as part of our Centennial project. We entered the "Centennial Doll Contest" sponsored by the Bruce County Historical Society, and won twenty five dollars for first prize In the competition. April 4, 1967, a very successful Centennial lea was held. Members came In centennial costume, . and served oatmeal cookies, muffins, jam. The Centennial Dolls entered In competition were on display. All proceeds were donated to Kincardine and District Hospital Auxiliary. C We took part at the Area Convention in Lucknow In the form of a fashion show, depicting styles worn through the years. We also took this fashion show to the District Annual meeting at bervie. 1969 - 70 _ 1970 - 71 PRESIDENT ai.. Mrs. Finlay McLeod ll e had our annual Christmas party Dec. 5, in the form of a lovely luncheon followed by euchre. Don White, Public Relations Officer at Bruce Nuclear Plant, gave an Interesting account and showed slides of this project on November '7, 1969. Dec. 3,71 meeting was a highlight when we sat down to a lovely turkey dinner. Mrs. ll. Lock convened the program. Mrs Outerbridge gave an inspiring message on "Hope". A game of Charades was atteett.iotttd by a panel of: - Mrs. o. Crawford (Maw Murray), Mrs. J. Kirkpatrick (Madame Benoit), Mrs. Donnie MacDonald (Judy LaMarsh) , Mrs F.
