Description
in 1930, a project for the Hickson Women's Institute Branch in Oxford County was to erect park gates at the entrance of Hickson Community Park. This W.I. group initiated the project but are not sure who financed it. In the mid nineties, the gates were deteriorating and the debate began....

Do we repair or tear them down? The Hickson W.I. had disbanded by this time but the community members rallied to save the gates in the name of "safety". They would slow drivers entering and exiting the park. Laverne Reibling, a local mason, repointed the gate stones sometime in the mid 1990's. This project was financed by the the township of East Zorra-Tavistock. They are still in perfect condition today and maintain the W.I. history in the Hickson community.
