WISH Clue # 1
Extraordinary Achievement Comes from Ordinary People

Our team of “No Spring Chickens” is made up of, one long time member (35 years), one new member (2 years), one former member and hopefully one future member.
Our small flock is perched around the WI rock in the garden outside the Codrington Community Centre where our meetings are held. Inscribed on the rock is, CODRINGTON WOMEN’S INSTITUTE, the logo and the year our branch was established, 1909. The Community Centre was opened in 1982, made possible by grants and a lot of fundraising efforts by the WI and the community. It is always referred to as “The Hall”.
In 2019 our branch turned 110 years old. Our WI is the oldest organization in Codrington. We celebrated this milestone at our September meeting that year. We invited members to dress in a fashion from their favourite era. They were each asked to write a few sentences regarding their choice. While each member “strutted their stuff” down the runway their commentary was read by another member. We created a photo booth and members had pictures taken together holding the signs you see in our photo, Women Inspired, Women Involved and I am WI. The other “chicken” in our photo is holding a framed certificate presented to our Branch by the FWIO recognizing our 110 Anniversary.
In closing our story for the first clue, we have a question:
Why did the women cross the road?
Answer:
To join the Women’s Institute meeting happening at The Hall on the other side.
Women Involved – Women Inspired – I AM WI
