Description
These Treasures, pictured with Pat Walker, Fern Holmes, Bonnie McCallum, and Alana Robinson are on display at the Severn Bridge Community Hall.
The Severn Bridge Community Hall was saved by the Severn Bridge Women's Institute.
When the Orange Lodge disbanded and were selling the hall, Severn Bridge W.I. stepped up to the plate. Purchasing the hall would give them a meeting place and be available for all community functions.
Where were they going to get the $3000 purchase price? A small fortune in the early 1960's. A dedicated branch member came to the rescue. Gladys Lippert, a thrifty lady would lend them the money interest free. Mrs. Lippert had saved fifty cent pieces for several years. Now was the time to put them to use. The transaction was anonymous so few people know of her unselfish act of kindness.
Severn Bridge Institute has disbanded but graciously sold the hall to the community hall board for $10.
Thank you Severn Bridge Institute for your contribution. The hall is still the hub of activity in Severn Bridge and many Institute members support it.
