Maple Ridge WI On June 9, 2016, Fran Pringle, a Member of Maple Ridge WI (Lennox & Addington District, Kingston Area), gave a very interesting and informative presentation about a current topic of interest - that of Lyme Disease. She pointed out several precautions to avoid contracting the disease, what symptoms to look for, and to seek medical aid immediately if a tick is found on your body. She related the struggles of a couple of local residents who had to seek treatment in the United States. However, a laboratory in Winnipeg now offers the blood test required for diagnosis. So, be alert and be "Tick Smart". Grand Bend WI Grand Bend WI (Huron South District, Southern Area) held their eighth Annual Spring Awakening on April 28, 2016 at the Grand Bend Legion. This ROSE (Reaching Ontario Sharing Education) Session featured a presentation from Lambton Victim Services, a demonstration of historical undergarments by Fanshawe Pioneer Village, a musical presentation by Alicia Veens, a spring fashion show by UBU Fashions of Grand Bend and dynamic motivational speaker, Judy Suke. Several short skits and jokes were presented by WI Members. Door prizes and raffle theme baskets were distributed. Monies from this event are used to support WI and community projects. One hundred and forty ladies attended this event. A colourful "Laugh In" backdrop used for the skits was constructed by Community Living clients in Dashwood. Pauline Hoffman and Rebecca Shearer from Just in Time Solutions, London gave helpful ideas on how to de-clutter our homes. After a delicious lunch, North Grey WI Members presented a "Foolish Fashion Show" which was enjoyed by all the ladies in attendance. Camille Cole from Dr. Cobbler Shoes and Swirls in Owen Sound talked about accessories and adding glitz to your outfit. Eleanor Brennan from The Painted Wardrobe in Owen Sound showed an array of ways to wear and tie scarves to compliment your wardrobe. Many went home with door prizes. Silver-Wood WI Silver-Wood WI (Wellington-Halton District, Guelph Area) had a wonderful June meeting with two speakers, Mary Ann and Edythe, from the Vintage Doll Club. They spoke about the History of Dolls and brought members of their own collections to pass around. The roll call was to bring your favourite doll or teddy and this was answered by all of the WI Members and four guests. Information on these dolls was given to the group by Mary Ann and Edythe. Silver-Wood WI meets the 2nd Wednesday of the month, usually at 7pm, at the Historic Devereaux House on Trafalgar Road in Georgetown.
