- For Home and Country
This is the story about our Lego creation. Our group wanted to build a home to represent WI. Our home is our castle. Our heart is our home. It is women who take care of their home and families and in doing so take care of their community.
WI began with family in mind to improve rural life for women by teaching domestic science. For many rural women formal education was lacking. Women from 125 years ago needed a way to brain storm and WI meetings were the answer. Taking precious time away from their home and chores to attend a monthly meeting to discuss problems of the day must have been very important to them. Back then there were not the conveniences like we have now.
Today we continue to live by our motto “For Home and Country”. We educate and advocate for our members and our community while developing lasting friendships.
