- FWIO-O, FUN WITH LEGO-O
This morning, the "Lunch Bunch Hunters Wish 2022" foursome had fun. Captain Norma McNaughton, Laura Acres and Helen McDonald met at the beautiful home of Mary Raats, "the lady with the LEGO". From the dozens of projects that the W.I.had lobbied for, we chose 3 things that we considered most important and also things that we could create with lego.
The outline is a cake with blue frosting decorated with the WI and 125 on top. The 125th anniversary was official on February 19, 2022.
When Adelaide Hunter Hoodless' 14 month old son was believed to have died from drinking contaminated milk, his mother dealt with this unspeakable tragedy by her tireless campaign to educate girls and women in household management. "In February of 1897, Erland Lee invited Hoodless to address a Farmers' Institute meeting in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Here, she suggested that a similar organization could be of benefit for rural women. The next week, on February 19th, the inaugural meeting of the Women's Institute was held with 101 women and 1 man in attendance - Erland Lee ."
The Holstein cow and container of milk are to indicate the origin of pasteurization.
The W.I.had lobbied to have visible markings painted down the centre of the highways to indicate when it was or was not safe to pass another vehicle. This was quickly created and the addition of two "Police " lego cars seemed appropriate to position in front of the school bus. The W.I. had also lobbied to have buses equipped with upper alternating red lights flashing to notify the public that children were embarking or leaving the school bus. A law was made that traffic coming from both directions had to stop when the flashing lights were on the school bus indicating that children were getting on or off the bus. .
We enjoyed the three hours of planning, sorting, creating, laughing at how complicated it is to put a recognizable cow together, drinking coffee and staging our display. Mary's granddaughter came over to photograph us on four cameras.
The Lunch Bunch Hunters savoured a nutritious and delicious shared lunch as they visited and congratulated themselves on taking three hours instead of two days to finish Wish Clue # 2. We thank the organizers for a fun filled creative idea of playing with Legos.
