The Yarmouth Glenders, after some discussion, selected “Memories” as the theme for Wish 3. We went rock hunting and discovered this is easier said than done. Each of us had a concept of what the right rock would look like- colour texture, shape, size in mind and we were quite critical in selecting a rock. Rocks were washed, sealed and brought to the painting session and so it began.

Joanne Erickson:
My dragon fly rock represents another symbol of nature spirituality that I received after the death of my spouse.
While on a Garden Tour of three properties located on the same street,
with each having a lily pond in the backyard, I encountered this experience with my friends.  The last of the three properties we viewed was our former home.
While looking from the deck over the back yard and pond, a dragon fly flew over the water. It was touching to me in that why did the dragon fly not appear atone of the first two properties but at the residence where we used to live.
This was truly a message from Ron.

I am giving this special rock to my daughter, a resident of Victoria, BC. A photo of the stone with the story has been emailed to her.  Although I am flying to BC to visit her, not wishing to take the rock with me, it is her wish that this memory rock remain here for her to find when she comes home for a visit.

Char Wilcox:
The blessings of children and grandchildren add memories galore.  Remember all the times you sat and read book after book developing their minds and wondering if you were going to have a voice left by the time they let you stop.  When you're not available they gravitate to a substitute.  My memory art stone is of our 22 month old granddaughter who took a readable book ornament off the Christmas tree representative of the same larger book I would read to her.

In July the granddaughter of “likeness” will visit from Calgary and find the rock in my garden. Since the rock is too heavy to carry on the plane, a remembrance photo of family and days gone by will become part of her memories.

Joan Jackaman:
My painted rock was given to Jim Evans, our church minister. It was “hidden” on the pulpit on Saturday so that he would discover it on Sunday.
I chose this recipient as my special person is that he played an important part in getting the congregation through the CoVid years. He embraced Zoom technology to keep us connected, informed and educated. Your weekly essays are interesting, thought provoking and amazing. He shared so much of his time and ideas with us that we were kept up to date on church events. He made the “lockdown” feel less frustrating and easier to handle.

So, knowing that he likes puzzles and trivia……… I gave him this challenge along with the rock: “I am a sewer, not an artist, but I managed a simple design. Now you must figure out what message I have sent you on the attached rock”.
PS, I painted pairs of numbers on a small rock….so it was a “Rock of Ages”.

Joan Mansell
To my dearest friend and mentor: Marion.

My fond memories of living part-time with the McKenzie family are very special to me.
As a young teenager, you taught me to be organized with domestic chores such as preparing meals, laundry, cleaning, gardening and child care duties. Values were stressed about the completion of 4-H clubs that I would benefit from in the future. Born into a large family, you bought me special items that my parents could not afford. My wages provided me the independence of handling my own money, which you instructed me to do wisely. I always looked forward to trips at the cottage with the family, which was a combination of babysitting and pleasure; swimming, boating, etc. You planned for me to enjoy some creative time with a local famous artist and learned a lot about oil painting. During my marriage, I experienced some challenges, and you gave me the guidance and confidence in making decisions. Truly, you are my “Udder Mudder.” Love, Joan

The photo was taken on June 1, 2022 in Joan Jackaman's back yard, complete with inukshuk.
