OUR COMMUNITY ROCKS
I painted the Presqu’ile Lighthouse on my rock for my very good friend Lydia. We have been friends for eons now. She lives in an apartment in Toronto and loves to come to Brighton to visit us. When she does come, we always go into Presqu’ile Provincial Park and walk out to the Lighthouse.
Lydia loves Lake Ontario, the history of the Lighthouse, and just enjoys being close to the water and away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. She will enjoy the painted rock on her balcony.

A Barn/Silo scene set in the rolling hills of our community where the Codrington WI is situated in the Brighton Municipality was chosen for my rock. This barn scene reflects one of the many farms that dot our rocking community.
Betty Ann Clitherow is the recipient of my painted scene as she and her husband Mick (since deceased) were dairy farmers in the area. Although Betty Ann is retired from its day to day operation, she still has a voice, as her two sons and families (third generation) continue this important farming industry in our community.
Betty Ann has been a member of the Codrington WI since 1965; she has held many positions in our organization, and volunteered for many projects. As well, the Clitherow family has coordinated numerous barbequed fish dinners, raising money for the Codrington Community Centre where the WI meets. Betty Ann is a proud grandmother, as five of her grandchildren are/have been recipients of the WI’s scholarship program.

Since moving to this area 11 years ago I have admired many of the lovely gardens of local people. One garden, in particular, is at the home of Cathy McCann, one of our long-standing WI members. Whenever I visit I feel a sense of calm, looking at the various flower beds and floral varieties. I admire the dedication and hard work it takes to care for them. I chose to paint my rock with Flowers and place it in one of their gardens. I hope they will like it.

I chose to paint my rock with a Farmers’ Market setting and give it to my good friend, Margaret. Margaret is the Chair of the Codrington Farmers’ Market – a volunteer – and spends many hours making sure it runs smoothly, the vendors are abiding by all health and safety rules, and the 7-member committee members are involved in governance and decision-making. As well, she runs a farm, and has a weekly stall at the Market.
The Farmers’ Market would not be nearly as successful without Margaret’s capable oversight, and I am grateful that she has taken on this role with such grace and good humour.
She has found the “Market Rock” and says she will “plant” it in her home garden. We can never have enough perennials!
