- For Every Woman There is a Season
Through our rock creations, we honour the four generations of our women in our lives. Like the natural changes of the seasons, we appreciate the beauty at each stage of a woman’s life. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from, grow with and enjoy the company of these special women. To each season, a woman brings her unique perspectives, skills, and knowledge. The words we inscribe on our rocks to describe our favorite women are joined at the roots, to symbolize how as we travel through life’s seasons, our unique qualities remain part of us even as we grow and acquire new ones.
Pam: Through my Spring rock, I honour my granddaughter, Nora. She is jubilant, uninhibited and constantly growing. With three older brothers, she blooms bright and sweet in her pink outfits and ponytails, but she’ll not miss a beat in keeping up with their everyday adventures. Just like her mama, she’s a free spirit with unlimited energy. She’s got a twinkle in her eyes, a smile from ear to ear and a sweet bond with her daddy. Our Nora brings JOY to all she meets.
Sandy: I honour my daughter Nicole through my Summer rock. Everything I know about mothering I learned from her – both from the delight of being her mother and through watching her beautifully raise her two young sons. Nicole is the type of friend that I would want to have. She is the hard worker that I would want to employ. She is honest and generous and kind, even when someone is not deserving – the very definition of “GRACE”. It is a word that holds a special meaning for us – it is the word that we use to describe my mother and it is the word that Nicole has tattooed in her grandmother’s handwriting to honour her memory.
P.S. This activity inspired me to think of the many people in my life that I admire and have begun to paint and dedicate rocks to them as well. My husband has even painted some!
Lynne: In 1982, I emigrated to Canada from England with my husband and two children, leaving behind my mother, father and two sisters. The first few years were challenging, with many tears. Miraculously Janet entered my life to fill the void. My story was her story – she was also an immigrant, with two small children and husbands who worked together. Our bond was immediate. Over the past 40 years, our friendship has deepened to the level of ‘sisters’, often being mistaken for actual sisters. There are so many things we love to do together – cooking, sewing, reading, knitting, walking and vacationing. Janet has been a LOYAL friend to me throughout our summer season and as we enter our Autumn years together, I dedicate this rock to her to let her know how much her friendship means to me.
Michelle: I chose WISDOM to represent my mother. She has an innate ability to foster and maintain strong, and true relationships. She emigrated to Canada in 1960 from Ireland at the age of 21, leaving her family behind. In 1961, she met and married my father until he passed in 2015 after 45 of marriage. After arriving in Canada, she developed many friendships and still to this day maintains these connections. Through her wisdom, she taught me the value of friendship and the importance of relationships. I have kept and maintained many friendships over the years and will always appreciate this quality nurtured through my mother. - Notes
