- Our theme is "My Sunshine"
We had visited the Wellington Beach to collect our rocks and then met at the home of Susan Donly, our team member. Our picture includes Nancy Wood, Elizabeth Shantz and Susan Donly, holding our masterpieces. Unfortunately our fourth member was not available that day.
Looking for a common thread in the recipients of our rocks we found the women we chose were all Mothers. Made us think how they "installed values to help us grow", as the sunshine is vital to all life. Their positive, sunny, attitudes were reasons why we admire them and chose them for our inspiration.
Following is a poem composed by our team, Elizabeth Shantz.
We owe a lot to Mother Earth,
She has great value, immeasurable worth.
Like our dear mothers who raised us.
Patiently taught and encouraged without fuss.
Instilling values to help us grow.
Like the Mary Stewart Collect we all know.
To take time for all things,
Like listening when a bird sings,
Or when someone just needs to be heard,
And we support with a kind word.
In the big things of life, we are one,
And not let the little things dim the sun.
We need to support others and be kind,
For in caring and sharing we will find.
We are supported and can spread the light,
Discouraging prejudice and encouraging what is right,
We all thrive on sunshine to improve our mood
It is as important as eating good food.
Nature gives us sunshine, but we can too,
To uplift others by little things we do,
We encourage, we smile, we listen and give,
In small ways we can help others live
A fuller life, knowing someone does care,
Making a strong community we all share.
So Mother Nature is threatened by climae change we know,
In our small ways we need our concern to show,
To honour our Mother and help make things better
We should follow the Collect to the letter.
Elizabeth Shantz is giving her beautiful rock to another member of our Branch and has composed this poem to share with her:
Dear Elda;
I have painted a lttle rock for you,
To thank you for for all the special things you do,
For others you meet and help along the way,
Like Mother Nature, in your garden each day.
You provide sunshine for those you touch,
Even though you might think you don't do much.
Your readings and contests and Potpourri tidbits,
Brighten our meetings and expand our limits,
So thanks for being the sunshine for me,
And know you are valued and loved you see.
Nancy Wood is giving each of her sisters a beautiful rock. Elizabeth Shantz has composed the following poem from information provided to her.
Sisters ... without them what would I do?
And I'm lucky enought to have two!
They're a supporting, encouraging, positive presence in my life,
They listen, advise and help, no matter the strife.
I count on them and already hid and gifted their treasure
Inspired, they started planned whose gifts they could measure.
This WISH clue was a thoughtful way to show we care,
So go ahead, pass it on if you dare!
My rock is going to my much loved sister, Barbara. Elizabeth once again, very kindly, composed a poem from information provided to her.
I have painted a little rock for you
To thank you for all the things you do
For others you help along the way,
Neighbours, church groups, immigrants who have come to stay.
Like Mother Nature you are always giving,
Helping others have a better living.
You do it willingly and with joy,
Your great people skills you employ,
Our family is fortunate to have you,
Not just for your cooking and gardening too,
But because you and Fred make this world a better place.
I am so proud to have a sister with such grace. - Notes
