Description

Our team, the W.Eyes, got together for a discussion of our themes at Helen’s home. The theme we chose is “Friendship Garden”, which will let us reveal our artistic skills. We all have access to stones on our properties/fields. Then we had a painting party at Monique’s home, with a photo shoot afterword.
Helen’s story: My special person is my autistic son who lives in a duplex supported by Community Living Staff. I am placing my “smile” stone at his front entrance. A reminder that a smile makes everyone’s day better. Little things can make a difference in our Friendship Garden theme. My signature on the back is (heart)Mom. Our team decided on personal deliveries. I showed the stone to him and asked if he would like it for his entrance. Happily he immediately said “Yes” using sign language. His staff comment was “That is so nice. Your Mom painted you this stone, it will look nice beside your planter that you care for “. Personally, I was very happy he liked the “smile” stone.
Marion’s story: My special person is my sister Ruth. Being close in age, we spent a lot of time together during our school days. Some of our activities were 4-H, band, church choir, piano lessons, helping at home with meals, gardening and babysitting our younger siblings. A few years after we married, we were both living in the country about 3 miles apart. Our children grew up together and when needed, child care was near. In 1967 we both joined the Walton W.I. and continue to be members. It has been very special to have her close by to celebrate together so many important milestones in our lives.
Brenda’s story: I gave my floral painted rock to my special friend Reta. We have known each other for years as I had her son in grade 2 when I was teaching school. Her late husband was our go-to person for help on the farm – such as with making hay, cattle concerns or machinery problems. We keep informed as to activities of our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Monique’s story: I have distributed my Friendship stones, which contain positive messages, around the gardens of the Seaforth Library. It is hoped that these words will uplift or put a smile on someone’s face, or in their heart. The gardens are looked after by the Seaforth Horticultural Society, and they are very beautiful. Friendly messages in a beautiful community garden.
Post Script: We were more comfortable in delivering the painted rocks to our special friend in person, as we felt uncomfortable going on to someone else’s property without them knowing of our visit.
