“Flowers for Friendship”

Upon sitting down to write our story, it came to me to read a little bit about friendship and how we define it beyond the way it makes us feel. There are whole articles online, explaining the nuances of what a friend is, how you make them and how you keep them. Within our group, we have each other to call on as friends but each of us was tasked to paint a rock and leave it for someone we care for. It sounds like we each picked a person who we have a deep personal relationship with. Our rocks are painted in different colours, they’re all different shapes and we each chose our own flowers, no two being the same.
There is a tulip painted on a tulip shaped serpentine that came all the way from Timmins, Ontario. There’s a heart shaped rock that has a beautiful red rose on it, clearly a message for a loved one. There’s a fossilized limestone that has flowers of many colours and shapes. And one large but oddly light rock filled with sunflowers that touch the sky.
Charmaine’s “tulip” is going to hide near her neighbours’ back door, a neighbour who had the most beautiful tulip garden. She has been given unfortunate notice about her cancer and Charmaine felt like she was very deserving of a nice surprise. Cecilia’s bright red rose is going to be hidden somewhere for someone she loves. She shared with us that red roses were her wedding bouquet. Victoria’s rock, with many coloured flowers, is going to her Dad, who plants a lot of them and cares about his gardens. He passed this love on to Victoria and afforded her the chance to own her farm, where she’s able to continue the legacy and love for gardens and planting. Samantha’s sunflowers are going to be hidden in her gardens for her partner to find, because without him, she never would have grown her first beautiful sunflower garden. It was a childhood dream of hers to grow them, and together, they got to admire how amazing it is to have a lot of them growing at once.
The idea for our theme, "Flowers for Friendship" came at our last Branch Meeting. Our roll call was naming our favourite flower. We all enjoyed that so much, and with all of the flowers just bursting with colour this spring, we decided it was fitting to choose that as our theme. We are so blessed in a world filled with so many beautiful flowers and such beautiful friendships!
