Description
Our team, Colpoy’s MIST, is part of the Colpoy’s Bay WI just north of Wiarton. As most people know, Wiarton’s claim to fame is its resident groundhog “Wiarton Willie”. While completing this clue, we actually felt we were part of the movie Groundhog Day! If you aren’t familiar with the movie, the main character keeps reliving the same day over again and again. Why did we feel like this you ask? Well, we had to do this clue twice!! As the story goes, we started planning as soon as we received our new WISH challenge. Even though we had longer to complete this task, we needed to get moving as some of our team members had travel plans. A few emails and chat sessions later we finally landed on a date to get together.
Since a new coffee shop was soon to open in town, we decided this would be a great opportunity to support a new local business while “paying it forward” at the same time. Unfortunately, our hopes were dashed as we learned of the delays in allowing this shop to open. Not to be discouraged, we headed off to the only other spot in our small town for coffee – the Tim Hortons.
We met outside on a sultry day gathered together in the much-welcomed shade as we watched people coming and going. Within minutes we determined this Timmy’s was a very busy spot in the prime of summer; it wouldn’t take long to pay it forward! We connected with a well deserving woman, purchased her a coffee, told her about the WI, bookmark handed out, photo taken (with the bookmark), mission accomplished – yippee! We all felt fill with goodness at our act of kindness. However, just like the movie Groundhog Day, not everything went as planned. It’s a long story which we won’t get into, but we needed a REDO of the whole day over again, just like the movie!! The only problem, we now is that had no bookmark to hand out for the photo (honest it was in our first photo so can we still get the bonus points?). With all our travels and commitments, it was impossible to get our entire team together before the deadline but three of us gathered for another attempt.
Like the movie, we made some last-minute alterations to ensure a better outcome. This time, we decided we weren’t going to purchase a stranger a cup of coffee since it didn’t work out too well the first time. Instead, we decided to donate some coffee to our local foodbank. This way many people in need would get cups of coffee. The volunteers at the Foodbank were keen to accept the coffee and learn all about the WI and the role we play in communities.
Now we all hope we can relax and PLAY because we did PAY IT FORWARD, not once but twice!!
