Walkies!!!

The four of us Marmaladies (Nanci, Debbie, Jane and Sally ) regularly meet up for a group dog walk at 2pm on Friday afternoons. We started this during the first lockdown and it has continued weekly ever since, with a number of others joining us when they are around.

Last week we went to a favourite park, Glen Haffy which is very close to Mono Mills. Each of us usually brings at least one dog, some have two, so it becomes a real pack. We get as much pleasure from watching the dogs play as we do with each other’s good company.

After our walk we thought we would stop at the Hockley General Store for a drink or a treat. We were thrilled to find our friend Fiona there, and thought she would be a perfect candidate for our WI bookmark. We bought her an ice cream and sat outside on the benches and talked about all things Women’s Institute, she was very interested and asked lots of questions, which we were delighted to answer. The conversation started with our Community Lunches which have been very well attended since we returned in person, and so engage our rural community. We also told her about our bra bank. This initiative was something she had never heard of and was keen to donate to, as it provides bras for women who would find them too expensive to purchase … Incidentally I just got a new one and I thought the sales lady had made a mistake when she rang it in!! WOW

So we found ourselves taking a picture with Fiona, her dog Ernie, her bookmark, and a few of our pack in front of the store. But, rest assured the WI has not gone to the dogs!!
