Hallowe’en Caper

With deference to Shakespeare, we the Braemar Wee Lassies chanted:

“Double, Double toil and trouble
Fire burn and cauldron bubble”

We did our duty on the double.

Chanting thus the hunt began till
Pinky the Clown developed a frown
Before espying
The perfect pumpkin outside town.

How this modern day legendary story was later told.

The Rescue of Little Pumpkin

Once upon a time there was a lonely and abandoned little pumpkin lost in the middle of a huge pumpkin patch.

He felt so sad but could not express his emotions as he had no eyes from which to shed his sorrowful tears. He had no mouth to scream out his woes nor to yell for help and so he sat hopeless day after day for a very long time.

Until…..

One day Pinky, the clown and her friends were meandering through the pumpkin patch looking for the perfect pumpkin. Pinky was not watching her feet being so intently concentrated on her search. Suddenly she stubbed her toe on a pumpkin vine, fell splat on the ground and face to face with the sad little pumpkin and knew intuitively that this was the one. She jumped up, did a cart wheel, called to her friends, “I found it. This is the perfect pumpkin!”

Skeleton rattled and shook with joy as she danced her “whirli” jig. Patches the Pumpkin smiled broadly with the best grin he possibly could muster and changed to a more enhanced orange colour as if glowing with pride. Witchy Woo cackled with glee (yes it is possible) and tilted her tall pointy hat just so.

Together they lovingly carried the little pumpkin to Pinky’s house where they discussed how to make the best eyes and mouth to reflect Little Pumpkin’s inward personality and soul.

They felt Little Pumpkin had a mischievous personality that needed to show so they gave him eyes that would wink playfully to passers by and a winsomely cute toothy grin to match.

Finally he was transformed into who he truly was. So Little Pumpkin was adopted by this motley group of friends and lived happily amongst them for ever more.
