- Minutes from the Wandering Investigators’ October Meeting (some corrections noted)
It was a dark and stormy night. (Well no, it was actually a cloudy afternoon.)
The wandering investigators team members were huddled around a small fire, trying to stay warm. (As I recall, they were eating cheesecake at the dining room table and chatting.)
There was a flash of lightening and a crash of thunder! (I don’t remember that!)
There was a soft knock at the door. (No there wasn’t.)
An intrepid investigator opened the door, and to her great surprise saw a moustachioed pumpkin. The pumpkin raised his cap, and said “I am sorry to trouble you, but the weather is so bad I wonder if I could take refuge indoors until the storm abates?” (I didn’t answer the door. This could be true.)
New participants are always welcomed warmly at WI meetings. It wasn’t long before the pumpkin was sitting on the table with his legs stretched out, drying his socks. “My name is Erland Pumpkin” he said. (Agreed.)
The WI members introduced themselves. “We were about to put on costumes to take a special photograph” they told him. (Accurate.)
Erland waited patiently while they prepared. When they were ready, they paraded in front of him. “I am a friendly witch” said Elizabeth. (True.)
“Guess what I am” said Theresa. No one guessed that she was a rodeo clown, but everyone admired her colourful clothes. (Also true.)
Erland surprised everyone when he looked at Eleanor and said “You are obviously a WI member channeling your inner Adelaide!” (Right on!)
“My turn” Erland said. “What do you think I am?”
The WI members were at a loss for words. Should they state the obvious? He did look like a big orange gourd. But with that moustache, maybe he was pretending to be a human? What should they say?
“Time’s up,” said Erland. “I am … waiting for a cup of tea!” With that, he wiggled his toes and joined in the merry laughter.
Minutes of the October meeting, respectfully submitted …
