- Description
- Locally, we have a farmer that grows lots of pumpkins, squash and gourds. Therefore, there was a good selection from which to choose our pumpkin. After searching through pumpkins of every size and shape, a beautiful pumpkin suitable for our needs was purchased. After a thorough cleaning the carving began. Most of our team members haven't carved a pumpkin for years, so this was a bit of a challenge. First, there has to be a hole cut in the top so that the insides can be cleaned out. We had decided to pit bats on our pumpkin, something that we thought that we could manage. Carefully we marked the pattern we had on to the pumpkin. Then the fun began, making the appropriate cuts so that we didn't have to start all over again. We were very happy with the results and with a candle inside our pattern really shows up. We added a few spiders to go along with out bats.
It was nice to be able to carve a pumpkin again after a long time without having this opportunity. Most of us had also long since gotten rid of our "tickle trunks" that held dress up clothes and costumes for various occasions, so this also was a challenge for our members. However, in the end we all came up with a costume appropriate for this event. we had Dracula, a clown, a bee and a witch and our pumpkin wore a top hat.
It was a great opportunity to get together and work on this project with will be enjoyed by all the Trick and Treaters that come to a members home. - Notes
