- The “ Lunch Bunch”name gave us an inspiration as to how we could dress for this Hallowe’en project. Norma McNaughton, Laura Acres and Mary Ratts met at Helen McDonald’s home in Vernon on a Saturday morning to create #5 Scavenger Hunt.
Laura had access to a chef’s hat, apron and spatula so her costume was assembled quickly.
Helen had made a burlap Indian dress for a WI float in Vernon’s Pioneers Day float, back in 1983, so she turned it inside out and Mary taped on buttons for potato eyes. Brown corrugated paper rectangles were taped to the headband to represent French Fries. It pays to have a “Hallowe’en costume” tote.
Mary wore a 3XL white t-shirt from somewhere with a taped on yellow bristle board egg yolk circle and a white hat and PRESTO---Mary was a sunny-side up egg.
Norma turned a green t-shirt backwards, pulled on green pyjama pants and a shiny green wig that Laura had in her bag of tricks and lo and behold, Norma was a stalk of broccoli.
We decided to carve a message on our jack-o-lanterns
“I LOVE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE”.
In hindsight, we should have carved the obvious “I” instead of trying to carve an eye and eyebrow.
The tricky part for our group is the photo—whether it’s actually finding someone who’s available and able “to snap us” or getting the candles to stay standing and lighted as we try to eliminate the glare from a sunny window.
Anyhow, we enjoyed the camaraderie and teamwork to complete #5 before we enjoyed another “Lunch Bunch” meal.
