Pumpkin Carving from the pumpkin's perspective!

It was a dark and stormy night.

Okay. Not really. But it should have been! There I was, sitting in my patch, when suddenly I felt myself lifted quite unceremoniously from my comfortable bed. I had no idea what was happening - I couldn’t see a thing! I landed with a thump in a very awkward position in a hard-sided container, where I sat for quite some time before I felt myself lifted once again. There was a muffled jingling sound and some other squawking noises that I couldn’t identify before I was thrown (yes, thrown! Can you believe it?!) onto a much softer surface. I thought this might be an improvement until an incredible roar surrounded me. What was happening to me? I couldn’t make heads or tails of it. The roaring ceased; I was moved once again, this time to a rather chilly location, where I sat for some time. I was moved for what I hoped was the final time, back into the soft roaring space, but only for a short time until I was lifted out again. This time, I could feel that there were some kindred spirits with me, but we were unable to communicate to tell our stories or determine our fate. More muffled squawking, another hard surface. A short time later, I could feel something tickling my surface. It was not an unpleasant feeling, but it filled me with trepidation. Then, to my horror, a sharp point stabbed into my shell! The pain! The suffering! The agony! I could feel my insides being torn out of the gaping hole that had been ripped into my bottom - I felt that I would never be the same again, if I was to survive this terrifying ordeal.
But then, a bright light filled my head. I could see! What a glorious thing! The colours! The shapes! I couldn’t believe that I had been denied these beautiful sights. A lovely person studied me with great seriousness as she wielded her weapon. I felt the sharp point of pain in my shell once again, but knowing the outcome made the suffering worth the agony. Soon after, I could hear, then breathe the sweet air around me. What gifts these were that had been bestowed upon me! Now, rather than squawking, I could discern the voices of others, also talking of the work they were doing on their own objects - my companions from before. I wished that I could see what was happening to them, to know if they were as excited by the prospects being provided to them as I.
At long last, my person set down her tools and announced ‘it’s a cat!’. Not knowing the nature of such a thing, I was confused about my transformation, but everyone seemed to be enthusiastic about the pronouncement, so I took it as a great honour. I was turned, to be displayed for the others in the room. I could see the transformations of my fellow gourds, and was impressed by the artistry that was bestowed upon them. It was difficult to tell if they were as excited as I about our new lives; their faces were difficult to read. I, however, was elated with my new ‘look’. I can hardly wait to see what the future holds for me in my new form, now known as ‘Monsieur LeChat’!
