The Perfect Pumpkin

A beautiful bright orange pumpkin
Was chosen from a local Amish farm
It was the absolute perfect pumpkin
With all of its splendour and charm

Cecilia came to pick me up
Then we drove to Samantha's place
We all piled into Samantha's new car
Since there was plenty of space

We headed South East to Victoria's home
She had agreed to host the gathering at her place
When we arrived, she opened wide the door
With a radiant smile on her face

She held little Audrey in her arms
Audrey is almost two years old
This little sweetheart was about to take part
In the WI adventure that would unfold

Their beautiful hound dog, Ruby
Also greeted us at the door
Paw shakes and licks and big tail wags
All I wanted was more

We all gathered in the kitchen
And Samantha outlined a beautiful face
On that absolutely perfect orange pumpkin
And she did not even have to trace!

The eyes were beautiful and oh, so bright
And she drew on the most perfect smile
This jack-o-lantern was going to be a girl
One with her very own style!

As we all watched intently
And Samantha carved out the first eye
Suddenly the pumpkin started weeping real tears
She had wanted to be pumpkin pie!

Samantha continued to carve out the face
And we all chatted most merrily
It was so nice to all be together again
And share this adventure with little Audrey

Once the face was carved out perfectly
Then a hole was cut from the top
And the bowls came out for seeds and pulp
And Samantha just did not stop

But she sat on the floor with the pumpkin
And Audrey sat near on Mommy's knee
She watched every move that Samantha made
She was quiet as quiet can be!

Then Samantha showed her all of the seeds
And the stringy gooey pulp too
Victoria coaxed her to touch it
She patted Audrey's hand into that goo!

A little smile finally surfaced
On Audrey's beautiful face
And soon there were seeds and pulp
Scattered all over the place

Back up at the table
Audrey was given the bowls and a spoon
And as she scooped up seeds and orange pulp
She began to softly whisper a tune

Sticky, sticky, sticky
She whispered as she played in the goo
From her finger tips, she would let it drop, PLOP
It sure did look sticky too!

I took a lot of photos
Capturing the magic moments of the day
It was Audrey's first time carving a pumpkin
It was special! What more can I say?

Audrey had so very much fun
Playing with that orange sticky stuff
But finally, it was time for her nap
She was done, she had had enough

While Victoria put Audrey down for her nap
Cecilia helped me braid strands of string
This pumpkin head was about to become
A pretty little thing!

Then Samantha used her glue gun
To fasten two braids and a crown
That was made was of little orange marigolds
This jack-o-lantern was NOT going to frown!

Then Victoria found a little outfit
Something that Audrey had totally outgrown
She took it outside to fill it with straw
I followed her, but we were not alone!

Ruby, the hound dog, joined us
Some goats, some calves and a Jersey Cow
They stood at the fence and watched curiously
We had a real audience now!

Victoria took the little pink outfit
And filled it with straw packed so tight
I photographed the process
Capturing memories in that afternoon light

Back inside the house, we all gathered
And various costumes were found
I transformed myself into a witch
Pointy hat, a broom and black gown

Samantha wore a one-piece coverall
She was dressed all in splotchy "Camo"
She really did not look too scary
Since she was not carrying any "Ammo"

Victoria was dressed as the Stormtrooper "Finn"
And Cecilia was the Jedi Master, "Rey"
They were characters from a Star Wars Movie
From some galaxy far far away!

This menagerie of characters
Went and gathered outside on the lawn
It was such a beautiful Autumn day
More like summer was carrying on

We set the braided crowned pumpkin
Upon her straw stuffed clothes
She looked a little funny without legs and feet
But she didn't seem to mind, I suppose

Propped up on a patio table,
That smiled remained upon her face
And as we all gathered behind her
She sat there happily, in her honoured place

With a smile on everyone's face then,
Photos were taken of this motley crew
Then costumes stripped off and heading back home
Completed was our WISH #5 Clue!
