- This is a close up view of an embroidered cloth that was created by the Grantham WI around 1930. It is made of cotton.
Besides the red embroidery in the centre of each block, there are many names in black throughout the cloth. The names are old Grantham names such as Seacord/Secord, Fleming, Parnell, Wood, Jones, Arbuthnot, Buchanan, McNamara, Stewart, Read/Reed, Earle, Anderson, Lees, Wilson, Paxton, Malton, Putten, Elvey, Gare, Shelton, Christie, Dalton, Livingston, Smith and many more.
The embroidered cloth was stored in the home of Grantham WI member, Eugenie "Emma" McFadyen. Her daughter is donating the cloth to the St. Catharines Museum. - Notes
