Earl Einwechter Marks 80th Birthday July 16, 1982 "I never had a birthday like it before" commented Earl Einwechter, Bridge Street after a weekend of celebrations marking his 80th anniversary July 16th. Most people usually have only one birthday party, but Mr. Einwechter, the genial director of the New Dundee Little German Band since 1947 was honoured on four different occasions. Friday morning Mr. Einwechter took his wife the former Ella Scheel to whom he was married 55 years ago in April to the Scissors Hairdressers on Queen Street only to be surprised with the first party. Mrs. Lee Siebert had baked a birthday cake and Mrs. Andrew Steger had brought another cake which was served along with coffee. That night a number of his neighbours surprised him at his home and he was presented with a birthday cake baked by Sylvia Sararas. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Einwechter were guests at the 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hill held at the home of their son Wilmot Township councillor Lou Hill at St. Agatha. The Little German Band came on a surprise visit to play for the 212 guests with another New Dundee native Claude Bowman wielding the baton this time. The band first played "Happy Birthday" for its director and then the Anniversary Waltz for the Hills. Sunday night Mr. Einwechter was guest of honor at a family party attended by 16 at the home of his daughter, Margaret and her husband Harold Lauber in Kitchener where he was again presented with a birthday cake. He also received a hydranger tree which he Slanted in his front lawn on londay. An avid gardener, Mr. Einwechter looks after four gardens and provides vegetables for many people. Born in 1902, he was one of the first of two sets of twin boys born to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Einwechter on the farm east of the village now owned by William Kropf. His twin brother Emerson lives in Largo, Florida. His other brothers are alt living, namely: Eldon of New York City, Harvey and Orville of New Dundee and (wins, Lorne of New Dundee and Clare of Waterloo. They were all together for a reunion at time of the village's 150th anniver-sary in August 1980. Mr. Einwechter's three daughters, are: Mrs. Shirley Redgewell and Mrs. Margaret Lauber of Kitchener and Mrs. Sharon Lauer of New Dundee, His two sons, Carson and Newton are deceased. He also has 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His early years were spent in the trucking business and he still recalls bringing in the first cans of milk to the New Dundee Creamery. He also farmed as well as having owned the New Dundee Hotel from 1952-57. A member of St. James Lutheran Church, he was a former Sunday School teacher. When interviewed Mr. Einwechter said, "I thank the Lord that He granted me the privilege of having my 80th birthday."
