New Dundee, June 13th 1907 A group of women met in Chipondns’ Hall on June 13th for the purpose of organizing a Women’s Institute. Mrs. P. W. Walts, Miss B. Duncan and Miss Pattinson were guest speakers, and gave very interesting addresses on Institute work. The following officers were elected- President – Mrs. A. J. Rice Vice Pres. – Sylvia Bock Sec. Treas. – Mamie Schultz Directors – Mrs. B. Kneisel, Samantha Bowman and Ida Bergelf Auditors – Mrs. M. F. Annes, Sylvia Boek The meetings were held in the afternoon at the various homes with twenty eight charter members, the majority being women from “The Plains” and such family homes as Henderson, Deans, McDonald, Neustedt, Welsh, Veitch, Elliot, and Rutherford on the roll. Household topics were discussed and some of the following subjects were given. “Cost of living”, “Waste through careless buying”, “Care of Winter Flowers”, “Use and care of milk”, Care of winter clothing”, “Prevention of disease”. Talks of papers were prepared for every meeting with discussion following. The Womens’ Institute under the leadership of Mrs. Spaetzel, were responsible for the Red Cross work done during the first World War and devoted to the Galt Ambulance fund at that time. Money was also donated to the Hospital Ship fund. Contests and demonstrations were popular at these early meetings, and Button hole and
