Several successful musical evenings have been held, and a Drama Contest was held in the Public School. In 1939 and interesting meeting and “Silver Tea” was held at the home of Mrs. A. Hilbarn with the New Hamburg and Haysville Institute as guests. A display of antiques was shown of interesting exhibits brought to Canada from distant lands. One of the most unique was a large water pitcher 100 years old made of hammered brass and used by the Turks. This was the property of Mrs. John Wanner, who received it from her sister miss Fredeuika Hank, a native of this community, who died on the mission field in Turkey 25 years ago. Mrs. Wanner also displayed a pewter communion plate over 100 years old which had at one time been used in the Junker congregation. A treasure of the same variety was a pewter communion cup, brought to Canada from a Presbyterian Church in Scotland more than 100 years ago. This was owned by Mrs. W. S. Foote who also displayed an exquisite silk shawl as well as carved figures made of wood and collected by her husband Dr. Foote while serving in India during World War I. Mrs. E. B. Hallman exhibited a dress made in England 89 years ago, and a pewter teapot dating back to 1835. A very small article which attracted much
