Copy of the Minutes of the Institute March 11th 1947 Historical Research was the topic for the March meeting with the convener, Mrs. F. Page presiding. The program opened with the singing “When you and I were young Maggil.” The Motto – “Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations” Heut 32.7 was given by Miss Sylvia Boek. A very interesting paper on “The History of Quilting,” and a demonstration of various kinds of quilt blocks was given by Mrs. M Bechtel. The response to the Roll Call, was an amusing incident in your family history. This was followed by a Vocal Solo “The Old Spinning Wheel.” By Mrs. Emmerson Harper. A paper on “The Art of Spinning,” prepared by Mrs. Brown was read by Miss Sylvia Boek. An article on “The Founding of the First Women’s Institute at Stoney Creek 50 years ago,” was read by Mrs. A. Futher. Mrs. H Schneider favored with a piano instrumental, which was very much enjoyed. An old spinning wheel, and several quilts were on display as old as 89 years 80 – 77 – 60 – 30. Prizes were awarded to the (4) four oldest Quilts. Mrs. F. Page the convener of the Historical Research Committee announced that months of research and planning to compile a “Tweedsmuir” History Book, which will contain a history of the New Dundee Women’s Institute, facts relating to work of the Branch, pictures of past Presidents, History of the Red Cross. Tribute will also be paid to all in the area who served in the two world wars, including pictures of there servicemen, will soon be completed.
