NEW DUNDEE NEW DUNDEE, June 21st, 1982. More Than $1,000 Raised at Celebration Proceeds of more than $1,000.00 from the Women's Institute booth at the Victoria Day celebration were reported at the Institute's June meeting held at the community centre last week. Thirty-three members and visitors attended and the business period was in charge of the president Mrs. Audrey Sararas. Announcement was made that Faith Ann Swart-zentruber will be the Institute's contestant in the Queen of the Fair contest at the Wilmot Agricultural Society's fall fair in New Hamburg. A picnic luncheon will be held at the Haysville Community Centre on August 11th for area members to meet Mrs. Ziny Westebring-Mueller, president of the Associated Country Women of the World who will be guest luncheon speaker at the 85th anniversary of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario to be held in Toronto August 12th. A bus trip to BIyth is being planned for August 19th and plans are also being made for the local Institute's 75th Anniversary to be celebrated at the Dundee Country Club October 19th. The anniversary committee is Mrs. Elva Fried, Mrs. Shirley Poll, Mrs. Marion Romahn, Mrs. Audrey Sararas and Mrs. Betty Lang. Mrs. Marjorie Gofton reported on the South Waterloo District annual meeting held at St. John's United Church on the Hill, Galt, the theme of which was "Communication - Best Tool" with David Imrie of CKCO TV speaking on, "Producer-Consumer Misunderstanding." Mrs. Ann Dedman of the Citizenship and World Affairs committee presided for the program and introduced the guest speaker. Robert Heintz of Roseville, a former member of the O.P.P. and the Waterloo Regional Police. Mr. Heintz said that 80% of all calls responded to by the police result from either alcohol or drug-related problems. He referred to the training received as a member of the tactical team in such things as rescue work and wrestling in self-defence also ways to approach and enter a house. A question and answer period followed, and the speaker was presented with a set of New Dundee souvenir mugs by Mrs. Gail Eby. Mrs. Isabel Kozicki gave the motto and members responded to the roll call by naming a citizen they admire. A social hour was enjoyed and refreshments were served by the committee. To blitz New Dundee By Record Correspondent NEW DUNDEE - Twelve members of the local Women's Institute will canvass every home in the village Monday evening for donations for the Canadian Arthritis and Rheumatism Society. First collection May, 1972 New Dundee, January 26, 1981 Seven Special Visitors at W.I. Meeting Seven Vietnamese and Laotian women who settled in Canada under the sponsorship of area churches were guests at the January meeting of the New Dundee Women's Institute attended by 57 at the community centre last Tuesday night. They described some of their experiences in refugee camps and of their travelling on boats where there was standing room only. The ladies were: Mrs. San Mei Su introduced by Mrs. W. H. Romahn of the United Brethren in Christ Church; Mrs. Them de Lee and her daughter, Laou Sueh Fang Lee by Mrs. Paula Paulinski of the Wilmot Centre Missionary Church; Mrs. Naun Vongphrachank by Mrs. Clifford Otterbein of Bethel Missionary Church; Mrs. May Yee Lee Nhia Vu and Mrs. Zer Lee by Mrs. Mary Per-rault of Sterling Ave. Men-nonite Church, Kitchener; and Mrs. Ke Dipraseuth by Mrs. Helen Staller of George Street Mennonite Church, Waterloo. Mrs. Floyd Good, convener of the Education and Cultural Activities committee presided for the program. The motto, "To Appreciate People From Other Lands, We Must Understand Their Culture", was written by Mrs. Harry Huisjes of Baden and given by her mother, Mrs. Howard Fried. Mrs. Ronald Hofstetter spoke on "Marriage and Courtship Customs of the Hmong People from Vietnam". Mrs. Lillian Sararas told of the' Hmong New Year and Mrs. William Dunker outlined the history of the people. Mrs. Kenneth W. Shantz led a sing-song featuring songs from around the world. During the business period in charge of the president Mrs. Alvin Sararas. Mrs. John Tilt of Doon reported on the work done by area Women's Institutes at the Doon Pioneer Village during the past summer season. Members responded to the roll call by displaying souvenirs from home or abroad with the greatest number being coffee spoons from many countries. A social hour followed and lunch was served by the committee consisting of rice and chicken dishes made by the guests.
