Alvin Sararas, Chairman Mrs. Norman Wood, Secretary Mrs. Elmer Poll, Treasurer Fulton Beck James Brown James Cressman Mrs. Roy Parker To New Dundee and Area Residents In three months, we will be celebrating our 150th Birthday and the "Golden Centennial" Committee has been busy planning for this special occasion. We have held twenty-four meetings, planning and co-ordinating the activities outlined in the previous newsletters. There are several items we would like to bring to your attention. 1. "Heritage Queen Contest" - Ml girls between the ages of 16 and 21 (at the tune of the Centennial) are invited to enter the contest. Several social activities are planned for all contestants prior to the final judging on Friday evening, August 1st. So, come on girls and pick up your entry forms at the Post Office, or call Mrs. Alvin Weber at 696-2612. NOTE: Any girl of families who receive this newsletter is eligible to enter the contest. 2. Beard Growing Contest - We have twelve entries to date, but there is still time to enter. Entry forms are available at the Post Office. 3. Plant a Tree in 1980 - We are sorry to report that due to rules and regula-tions enforced by our sources of supply, we are unable to carry out this activity. However, we are encouraging the residents to consider purchasing and planting a tree as their own "Golden Centennial" project. 4. Souvenirs - The Committee has ordered T-shirts, silver spoons, mugs, and stationery as souvenir items. A history book is also being published. These items will be available June 1st at the New Dundee Board of Trade office (old library building) on South St. Hours will be posted at several business places in New Dundee. 5. School Reunion - Plans for the School Reunion are progressing favourably and the Committee anticipates a large turn-out on Sunday, August 3rd. However, there are still many people who have not returned their 'reply cards' to Mrs. Earl Bock. Please! Return the card as soon as possible. These cards are important to all Committees so they can make the necessary preparations. 6. Advertising - An Advertising Committee has been busy selling advertisements for our programme booklet. If your place of business has not been contacted and you wish to advertise, please call Fred Trimborn, 696-3144. 7. Summary - The "Golden Centennial" Committee is pleased with the progress to date, and thanks those who have worked on the various Committees. However, more volunteers are needed to help carry out their plans. Call any Committee member and volunteer to help. Thank you, Golden Centennial NEW DUNDEE, ONTARIO NOB 2E0
