DOCTORS AMD DOCTCRIK} IN NEW DUNDEE (continued) Page 2 Praut. They had one son Wallace. Mrs. Morrison had a star role in "The Old Homestead" which was enacted in Kavelman's Hall. Dr. Morrison took some post graduate work in Chicago and subsequently settled in Kitchener. He died this past February 14, reaching the age of 84 years. He sold his practice to Dr. Walter S. Foote in 1926 who remained here until 1939 when he moved to Paris. Mrs. Foote is remembered as a talented pianist. Dr. Foote died March 14, 1970. Dr. A. <P. Rockel bought the practice and the home on Mill Street. His parents kept house for him until his marriage a year or so later. In 1942 he was called into military service and upon discharge took up practice in Kitchener. Dr. Lucy Marritt of Ayr filled in during Dr. Rockel's absence. Mrs. Lydia Clemens bought the residence, lived in the office part, and rented the other part to Lorne and Beulah Brighton who eventually purchased it from the Clemens estate. For years this house was known and still is referred to as "the doctor's house." The gothic structure with its well-kept white board and batten exterior has attracted the attention of artists and photographers from near and far. "The Doctor's House" In 1952 Dr. Boris Svorcik had an office in the back room of the Austin Bauer residence (Walter Keffer's) on Front Street across from the Creamery. Here he opened for two afternoons a week. The Baptist parsonage which was located at the comer of North and Mitchell streets was also used as a doctor's office. In 1957 a lady doctor named Stelzer. was one of two doctors who remained for a very short period. In 1944 and 1945 the Board of Trade ran an ad in the Toronto Globe and Mail for a doctor to come to New Dundee. Although several made inquiries, no one was desirous of settling here. Consequently we have not had a resident doctor since Dr. Rockel took his practice to Kitchener. Dr. Paul Gilmore, Chiropractor, bought a home on the Huron Road, two and one half miles north west of New Dundee and resides there now. He practises in Kitchener. Compiled by Mrs. Marion Romahn and entered in Tweedsmuir History in July 1972.
