(cont'd) Building Committee's dream of having the Centre paid for at completion has not been realized, and further funding will have to be done by the Community. In November, 1988, a Grand Opening was held at our beautiful new Community Centre, and even though the kitchen was not completed, the ceremonies included speeches from John Sweeney, Social Services minister, Wilbert Cober, township representative, and John Scott, chairman of the Building Committee. The school children sang several songs, including one honouring members of the building committee. A hot dog lunch was served by ladies of the Home and School Association headed by Marilyn Sararus. Squares and coffee followed, and the public was invited to tour the building. Master of Ceremonies for the morning's events was Don Poth, and all committee members took part in the ribbon cutting ceremony. In the evening, the Women's Institute served a delicious beef dinner to approximately 150 people, and at 9:00 o'clock a community dance was held. Midnight lunch of cheeses, cold cuts, pickles, and kaiser buns was co-ordinated by Joan Good and Martha Hofstetter. This brought to an end a very special day for the Building Committee members and the community of New Dundee. At present, the new building is being used extensively by many community groups. Furnishings are still needed, (Chairs, tables, etc.) as we are still using some of the older ones along with the new ones purchased for the Centre. In the spring, the parking lot will be finished, and landscaping will be done around the building. The local Horticultural Society has offered to help with the donation of shrubs, and planting, etc. There are still many finishing touches required for the Community Centre, so the work of the Building Committee is not finished, and we will keep on going until
