THE NEW DUNDEE COMMUNITY CENTRE In February 1986, The Optimist Club of New Dundee was looking for a Community project to become involved in, and at a brainstorming session, a new Community Centre was suggested. The existing Centre (the former Missionary Church) was being used almost nightly for community groups but inadequate washrooms, inaccess-ability and size made it unsatisfactory for many functions. The Optimists formed a committee to investigate the feasability of spearheading this project, and determining the public's feelings and needs for a Community Centre. Committee members were Ken Becker, Dr. G. Hess, Dennis Mighton, Tom Muskiluke and John Scott. The results of a survey by the committee showed that 77 percent of respondents were in favour of a new building. Representation from all community groups was requested, and in September, 1986, the NDCCBC (New Dundee Community Centre Building Committee) was formed with the following members: John Scott Optimists Chairman Dennis Mighton " Sec-Treasurer Tom Muskiluke " Fund Raising Donald Poth " Communications James Cressman Bd.of Trade Land Martha Hofstetter W.I. Building Design Wallace Jutzi Seniors " " From September 1986 to the present, this Committee has met regularly, and will continue to do so until the project is finished and paid for. Application was made to the Ministry of Tourism & Recreation of Ontario for a Grant to cover one-third of the building's estimated cost, with one-third coming from the Township of Wilmot, and the other one-third to be raised
