Klassen Bronze. The Klassen Bronze was started here in 1950 in an old cement building at the G.N.R. tracks which at one time had been part of the Stuart Milling Company. In 1955 a new plant was built on Hincks Street. They specialize in bronze and aluminum tablets, manufacture signs of all descriptions and a new type of sign called Metl-Stik. In I969 the firm built a new 6600 square foot industrial building near the intersection of Highway 7 and 8 and Hamilton Road. It houses the production facilities for the Ketl- Stik division . A small addition was erected at the Hincks Street plant . The bronze and casting division operate there . The offices for the firm are also at that place. The Metl-Stik division manufacture self-adhesive aluminum letters and numerals for signs, vehicles and other purposes. About 40% of production is being exported to nine countries including Eurppe and Australis. In the new premises there is an art room and a showroom to display the firm's products, which includes a wide range of plaques and home accessories and ornaments. The firm started in New Hamburg in 195C as a one-man operation, run by the founder, Kr. Con. Klassen. He has now retired ana his son Rodney and his wife Connie operate the business. In 1969, the Klassen Bronze merged with Cole National Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio.They are best known for their key blanks for spare keys for which they are one of the largest suppliers in the world. Other products in the various Cole divisions range from fancy gift wrappings to optical sales and include a line of letters similar to Metl- Stik.
