In 1945 the Limehouse Women's Institute purchased the Methodist Church in Limehouse and dedicated it as Limehouse Memorial Hall in memory of the men and women who served in the wars. A community canvas was conducted to help pay for the hall. In 1945 the Women's Institute ladies made this quilt, embroidering the names of those who donated and their families. The large star in the middle has the names of those who held office from 1922 until 1945. This quilt now hangs in Limehouse Memorial Hall. The names are recorded within in alphabetical order with the number of the block beside the name to help you locate the name on the quilt. The quilt blocks are numbered below. Blocks 15, 16, 21 and 22 make up the large star.
