The census which follows was acquired by Wilma Coombs. The original came from the Provincial Archives in Toronto. The maps came from a Guide Book and Atlas of Muskoka and Parry Sound Districts {published in 1879}. The pictures throughout the book have been donated by members and friends of the Croft, Chapman and Magnetawan communities. Photo taken about 1900, looking across the Magnetawan River from the water's edge behind the powerhouse to the south shore; building on the extreme left is on the larger island and owned by the Taylor Lumber Co. The building on top of the hill is St. Paul's Lutheran Church {dedicated in 1885 and blown down in 1913}.The white house is Tom Kennedy's home. Note there are no streets on the hill and there is a small foot bridge across the waterway from the south dam.
