Dedication We dedicate this book to the memory of Mrs. Emma Jones Beckwith Cullen. She, along with her husband, were among the early summer residents on Ahmic Lake. Mrs. Cullen came in 1903, and until her death in 1918, she very much enjoyed her summers here. She was always thoughtful of, and concerned about the welfare of the people of Magnetawan and the surrounding community. Her concern extends even to this day through a fund that was established in 1919 in her name. The proceeds of that fund have enabled the Magnetawan Women's Institute to accomplish many projects over the years for the betterment of the community and its residents. Therefore, it is only fitting that we dedicate this book to her memory as well as to the hardy pioneers who led the way in opening up this area for settlement. They left the unknownâ€"friends, and a familiar way of lifeâ€"to start a new life among strangers in a harsh new world. It was a full life of hard work, hardships and tribulations.
